The Advanced Technology Roadmap Architecture (ATRA) is a step-by-step methodology for developing technology roadmaps and using them for shaping a Research and Technology (R&T) project portfolio to meet future targets.

The key questions underlying ATRA are shown at the center. The inputs to ATRA are a clear decomposition and mapping of products (or services or missions) and technologies, a dependency structure matrix (DSM), Intellectual Property analytics (patent analysis), opinions of experts and technology scouts, as well as the organization's strategy. The outputs are quantitative technology roadmaps, future scenarios with technology valuations, as well as an efficient frontier of potential research and development (R&T) portfolios.
