In the context of XLP, all participants' learning results collected over space and time, is considered to be publishable raw material, to be processed by the publishing workflow.
A digital publishing workflow, often requires the following three components:
- An event scheduler, where all work items done are time-stamped, or coordinated by the scheduler.
- A set of initial publishing tasks. Each should use logic model to specify the final publication product.
- A set of digital tools to edit or distribute digital content.
Due to the maturity and popularity of networked data services, digital publishing workflow can be thought of as a generalized abstraction of product development processes, or even a networked digital marketplace. By adopting a disciplined mechanism to organize digital assets and data services, digital publishing workflow is a way to engage many participants to compose new functions out of resources across the global network.
