Video footage has caught the moment a stage show depicting a deadly earthquake is struck by a real jolt. 
The stage show about the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake was being held in Jiuzhaigou, [/news/china/index.html China]'s Sichuan province when the quake struck yesterday. 
Members of the audience at the time thought that the shakes were special effects.

Two strong earthquakes have rattled China in the past 24 hours leaving at least 19 dead and 247 injured.   
The death toll is from the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit a remote, mountainous part of southwest China's Sichuan province.

A few hours later a 6.6 magnitude earthquake rocked northwest China's Xinjiang province however no casualties were reported.  
The Xinjiang earthquake hit on Wednesday morning just hours after the quake in Sichuan. 
No casualties have been reported but [ ] shows the sheer damage and destruction in the area.

The U.S Geological Survey put the magnitude of the quake at 6.3. 
Residents several hundred kilometres away in Urumqi felt the strong tremors which lasted around 20 seconds. 
Xinjiang is China's most remote region but an important source of oil, natural gas and coal.

The quake hit a sparsely populated area 200 km (120 miles) northwest of the city of Guangyuan late on Tuesday at a depth of 10 km (6 miles)
In southwest China's Sichuan province, the recovery operation is underway after the area was hit by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake. 
It was close to the Jiuzhaigou nature reserve, a popular tourist destination.
According to China News Service, six of those killed in the quake are tourists. 
While state media claimed that 31,500 tourists had been evacuated from the quake zone.

The Sichuan earthquake administration, which also measured the quake at a magnitude of 7.0, said the epicentre of the tremor was in Ngawa prefecture, which is largely populated by ethnic Tibetans, many of whom are nomadic herders.
The area was rattled by a number of aftershocks on Wednesday.
Pictures on state-run social media sites showed some damage in Jiuzhaigou, with tiles having fallen from buildings and people gathering outdoors.

Over 770 aftershocks were detected in the area as rescue and relief work is still underway
State television said electricity had now largely been restored to the affected areas and the military was also sending rescuers to help with relief efforts. Jiuzhaigou airport was operating as normal after the runway was checked for damage.
The Sichuan government said on one of its official social media sites that more than 38,000 tourists were currently visiting Jiuzhaigou.

Shaking was felt in the provincial capital, Chengdu, and as far away as Xi'an, home of the famous terracotta warrior figures, according to users of Chinese social media.  
Situated in south-west China on the edge of Tibetan Plateau, Sichuan Province is prone to earthquakes, tour cửu trại câu and most of the quakes seem to take place in the Longmen Mountain fracture zone in Western part of Sichuan.
In May 2008, a Magnitude 7.9 earthquake struck Wenchuan, Sichuan, killing nearly 70,000 people.
